Steel Planters

Designed by Basile Studio

These steel planters lock together with custom branded hot rolled steel dividers. They sit on heavy-duty casters with a custom foot-locking pedal that will lock the planters in place while still hiding the casters behind a welded channel skirt. They will be used in an upcoming dining hall in the heart of Little Italy, San Diego to cultivate an outdoor dining patio.

Exploded View

I use exploded views to easily communicate to fabricators the assembly of a complex model by identifying parts. This is just one part of drawing packages I create, along with a complete Bill of Materials including stock size and quantity of materials used

Finished Assembly

CAD

This CAD model was used to not only create a CNC cutlist file for the laser to cut the hot-rolled steel sheets, but also to model the exact angle necessary for the foot pedal brake. The foot brake is welded directly to the caster locks and protrudes through the steel channel skirt for easy use.

Full Assembly

Showing a full assembly with multiple subassemblies is important to properly document and communicate a project. This model not only shows the full vision of the design, but also serves as an important parent model to easily adjust necessary changes across multiple features.

The final model turned out aesthetically pleasing with a fully functional breaking system.

Brake Assembly Prototype

This prototype was to test the custom brake system and it worked great.
